Huerta del Valle addresses systemic health, environmental and economic inequality by developing sustainable community-based agriculture hubs by which people have access to public land for public benefit. As a model for putting composting and community farming at the center of and subsequently transforming toxic California Inland Valley communities, Huerta del Valle works regionally to build soil from recycled waste, grow food in local community contexts, educate the public, and develop leaders. Guided by the equitable triple bottom line, Huerta del Valle’s efforts result in a sustainable and empowered community, increased community health and creation of a just local food system.
